Feel free to continue squeeing and enthusing (or not, we're equal opportunity around here) back in the previous entry. Meanwhile, though, now that you've read Episode 6 and had time to digest it a bit, here's a spot for musing on what it all means, where you think it's going, why you think Character X said Y to Character Z, that kind of thing.
You know we're all about dissecting and exploring meaning, here at the Ford.
And don't forget, some lovely new icons have been added for this episode, so be sure and snag 'em while they're hot. Or fuel your nostalgia for the Alternaverse of Episode 1 ("Alley Oops"), the ballroom dancing of jwaneeta's fanciful interpretation of the multi-way wedding back in Episode 4 ("Something Borrowed"), or any of the other great images available.
So. Explore your questions, musings, and prophecies below.Tragedy or Comedy?: thoughtful

the chapter is now up (mysteriously out of order at the subsite, though not at the tatf main site, but we'll try to get to the bottom of that mystery later). and we so hope you like it.
one caveat: the site's not running well, and now that the chapter's done and out, we're gonna do some construction work, and might even have to change webhosts, we'll just have to see. but in the meantime, it might be a bit bumpy on the access road to both the site and the subsite. normally we figure that half the fun of the Ford is what you might find taking the backroads on the way to somewhere else. but just in case you have trouble anytime for the next while getting to Solla Sollew, here's a detour link that goes directly to this Chapter.Tragedy or Comedy?: hungry

just to say that Chapter Six is due this Friday, and the Upcoming page with its mild spoiler bits (title, description, writer list, and artwork) is now up at the subsite, if you want to peek so as to ponder possibilities. also avidrosette has kindly put together some lovely icons for this ep based on cyn's fabulous sketches and vrya's fine collage work: the icon drawer's linked on the left side of this screen. have fun now, but don't be late.{g}Tragedy or Comedy?: lighter

We are excited with the comments on Roman Holiday so far--keep 'em coming! At this point, you should probably avoid the launch post if you haven't read the episode yet; spoilers tend to get more and more explicit as the discussion progresses.
For now, people have been mostly reveling in the experience (long-time readers know we try to make it as full-sensory as possible) and the afterglow. If experience is any guide, however, soon readers will start moving into Phase 2: discussing the themes, speculating on what will happen next, or what certain elements might mean, and critiquing the work. We welcome any kind of comment and conversation, so have at it!Tragedy or Comedy?: content Dancing in the round to: Three Deep theme song

» We're all going on a Roman Holiday
Come one, come all: The Virtual Ford invites you all to climb aboard Episode 5 of the virtual crossover season Three Deep, Roman Holiday, is now live for your reading pleasure.
Be sure to watch the previouslies.
As always, we've done our best to cater to your needs and preferences, so you can experience the new episode the way you like best. Specifically:
- The link above takes you to the subsite page, where you can see the episode in all its glory, including the accompanying artwork. However, not everyone can or wants to read 60-odd pages in light-on-dark type, so if you prefer you can opt instead for
- the classic Tea At The Ford version (all that changes is the style sheet, of course). There you can browse at your leisure amid the soothing earth tones of the main site.
Some people like to print out a copy to read away from the computer (fancy that!). For them, we have two possibilities:
- the PDF formatted for North American letter size paper, or
- the PDF sized for A4 paper, for the rest of the world (both available from the subsite).
Finally, if none of those options suit you, you can
- copy and paste the text from either of the web pages into the word processor, text file editor, or other widget of your choice.
We want to make the reading experience as easy and enjoyable as possible. And don't forget: Three Deep is also sound and video. As mentioned above, there are previouslies for your viewing pleasure, and if you haven't already seen the ProMo Vid, you should check that out, too.
We think this is the best episode yet: full of creepiness and fun, action and character growth, some hopefully unexpected turns to keep you on the edge of your seat. We hope you agree, and if we've done our job right, as soon as you put it down you'll wonder where the next part is (answer: under construction). But whatever you think of it, please come back and share!
ETA: There are some (for now) mild spoilers in the comments below, so proceed at your own risk if you haven't yet read the episode. (And why haven't you?)

» ...almost there!
Today's the big day! This evening-ish, Eastern Time in North America, 3D5 Roman Holiday will be live. We are all on pins and needles in anticipation.
Meanwhile, a couple of things to keep you occupied while you wait. First, the final recap is up, for episode 4, Something Borrowed. Refresh your memory of Zhids and peace conferences, inter-species couplings, grisly secrets in the roots of Sebassis' castle, a most unusual card game, truces and weddings.
For even more fun, we've had an extra ready and waiting for you for a long time, and finally we can share! Introducing Borrowed, by the unparalleled macha, a bit of audio commentary on the Something Borrowed episode (the mp3 file is here and the text is here), expressed in a... let's say unexpected format.
(Although around here, who the hell knows what to expect, really.)
One thing you can definitely expect: Roman Holiday, coming to a computer screen near you. Today.

Tea At The Ford is proud to announce the upcoming release of Episode 5 of Three Deep:
Roman Holiday which will, as previously announced, go live tomorrow evening, Thursday, September 14.
To celebrate and prepare, you are invited--nay, urged--to visit the sneak preview of what's in store. There you'll find:
- The episode art (ooh!)
- A teaser that you can read (hmm), and watch (wow!).
- A reminder of where to read the recaps of past episodes (through episode 3: the fourth is coming tomorrow morning... with a little extra present as a reward for your patience, and to keep you occupied until air time).
Go forth, read, watch, ponder, and most of all, enjoy.

Previous episode summaries are now up to Episode 3. Stroll down memory lane to remember the second episode, (Hell is in the) Details, with some of our heroes still in bizzarro-world LA and a Wesley straight out of someone's nightmares (probably Angel's). Meanwhile, Buffy & Co. are still in this world, picking through the pieces of our own LA, post-alley scene, and trying to figure out what went down.
Then, you can fondly recall episode 3, Grrl Trouble: convergence at last, but not exactly the happy meet-and-greet everyone might've hoped for. There's a war on, and it's hard to tell who's siding with whom at this point.
The next couple of days are big ones for Three Deep readers (and the creative team, too!). Stay tuned: later today, you'll find out the title of the new ep, and as always, get to read and hear and watch a tantalizing teaser.
Tomorrow morning, you can refresh your memory about the previous ep, so you're primed and ready when episode 5 airs for your full-sensory pleasure, tomorrow evening (Eastern time in North America).
We can feel you, you know. Shivering in antici... pation. And we're right there with you.

» Countdown
Almost there.
Just a few more days.
Remember, the episode will launch on Thursday, September 14, probably evening-ish on the East Coast of the United States.
To help you prepare, we've put together some brief recaps of the previous episodes, and we'll be unveiling them one at a time. Be prepared for a special surprise along the way, too.
The recap of Episode 1, Alley Oops is now available for your perusal. Of course, nothing beats rereading the episode itself; the recap can't do justice to the big, epic feel of the story, the strangeness of the alt-LA where our heroes found themselves at the beginning of our tale. Still, it'll serve as a reminder of some of the most salient bits.
Stay tuned for more recaps, more anticipation, a little something extra, and a brand-new episode in just a few day's time.

» It's coming... now with an actual air date!
Thought we were kidding there, didn't you? We'd never kid about something like that, really. We just got a little distracted polishing things till they were extra-shiny. Sorry about that; didn't mean to keep you all waiting. We're just always so excited when we're getting ready for guestage!
Like the networks, we like to make sure you're awake by moving things around every once in a while. Tradition has its purpose, but occasionally needs to be tossed out the window. In the specific: the next episode of Three Deep will be up in just under two weeks' time, on Thursday, September 14. Not on a Tuesday, and not on a regular announcement schedule. We're so nonlinear.
Stay tuned in the meantime, though. There will be summaries of past episodes (not that rereading the whole thing isn't an even better idea, but it seems some people actually cannot drop everything and dedicate themselves full-time to Three Deep as needed, absurd as that may seem). There will be special surprises along the way. Best of all, there will be a truly thrilling episode at the end of the wait. (Seriously.)
Let the bouncing commence new Three Deep to air thirteen days hence!

» For those interested in process
A number of people have expressed in interest in the writing process behind Three Deep. It's quite unusual, we think, and always a work in progress. macha3's LJ is always the best source of glimpses behind the scenes at the writers' room, and today she's posted some notes on structure, intention, and process that many might find illuminating.
Not that we want to distract anyone from the terrific ongoing discussion of the latest episode, or the project in general. Just an FYI.

» Working for the weekend
First, just FYI: this new look is not deliberate. All of our customizations look as though they're still in place, they just don't work. An LJan mystery. We've been advised to wait it out, or to redesign, or to clutch our pearls. We'll probably end up trying a variety of options (except the pearl-clutching: we're more the sword-wielding type around here).
Meanwhile, the weekend is fast approaching. We couldn't be more thrilled with the response to the latest episode so far, and we encourage everyone to take a look at the conversations in progress about the episode in question, and the series as a whole. There are a lot of insightful insights and thinky thoughts to ponder.
However, LJ comments get difficult to navigate when the responses keep coming, so it's time for a new post. Otherwise, those poor, unlucky souls (or soulless) among you who have had to delay your reading until the weekend may never find your way in, or out.
So, feel free to continue talking about stuff here, start new discussions, chime in after your first reading or your fourth pass with magnifying lens in hand, whichever. There's still plenty left to say, we think, 'cause that's how we built it. And we wish to express our eternal (loaded word, that, especially hereabouts, but let's go with it) gratitude to those who are passionate enough about these characters and their stories to want to keep talking about them. It's for you that this series is being produced.
ETA: All hail the wonderful abbylee, who brought us back to life! We are back in black, where we belong. Whew.

» ::drumroll, please:: Ta-da: Episode 4 is now live!
Attention Ladies, Gentlemen, and GentleOthers: The Virtual Ford is proud (and relieved!) to announce that Episode 4 of the virtual crossover season Three Deep, Something Borrowed, is now live for your reading pleasure.
Be sure to watch the previouslies.
In case you're new to the process, or just need a refresher, there are lots of ways to enjoy the new episode. Here's a handy list:
- The link above takes you to the subsite page, where you can see the episode in all its glory, including the accompanying artwork. However, not everyone wants to read 50-ish pages in light-on-dark type, so if you prefer you can opt instead for
- the classic Tea At The Ford version (all that changes is the style sheet, of course). There you can browse at your leisure amid the soothing earth tones of the main site.
Some people like to print out a copy to read away from the computer (fancy that!). For them, we have two possibilities:

- copy and paste the text from either of the web pages into the word processor, text file editor, or other widget of your choice.
We want to make the reading experience as easy and enjoyable as possible. And don't forget: Three Deep is also sound and video. As mentioned above, there are previouslies for your viewing pleasure, and if you haven't already watched what macha3 has now decided to call the ProMo Vid (formerly the Upcoming), you should check that out, too.
We hope you like it. Well, that's not entirely true: we hope you love it. Whatever you think of it, whether it's "Wow!" or "Huh?" or anything in between, be sure to let us know.

» ThreeDeep Episode 4: Officially one week to air date!
There has been some (admittedly understandable) skepticism about our launch schedule, but this time we took no chances. The ep, she is done, and currently undergoing only the most cosmetic of copyediting. After so long a wait, we didn't want to risk any last-minute delays. Because that would be silly.
As you may remember, we have a tradition that the week before launch we give our first "spoilery" information: episode title, a brief description (like an hors d'oeuvre, intended to whet the appetite without spoiling the meal), some special artwork specific to the episode, and an "upcoming" vid that gives the merest hint of what's in store. So that's what we've got for you today.
All of the above can be conveniently found at the Three Deep subsite. If you are in so much of a hurry you can't even click over, you can take a quick peek below the cut to see just the title and description. The promo vid is available only at the subsite, though (click the link above), and we highly recommend it. Long-term Three Deep readers agree: the promo vid is always worth watching.
( Peek here to start unwrapping... )
There's another little extra planned, too, to be unveiled at the appropriate time.
Meanwhile, let the speculation begin!

» For those of you (re)reading Episode 2 (Hiit Details)...
... we'd like to remind you of two amazing discussion threads about the initial dream sequence.
The first, right here at the Virtual Ford, initiated by wenchsenior, and then another one over there, in the personal LJ of stultiloquentia.
(Is it terrible to say that while Stulti's addition to the Ford is a marvelous gain, some of us wept at the thought that there would be no more such posts on our virtual season? Others will just have to take up the mantle--and we very much hope you will.)
And dream sequence aside, there was some fantastic discussion of the episode in general here and here. Revisiting those--or visiting them for the first time--is a great way to refresh your memory and spark new ideas.

» Week Two of the Rewatch: (Hell is in the) Details, ho!
Two weeks to go until episode 4 airs, so just enough time to keep going with our looking back. Think you remember everything that happened in episode 2? Unless you are a miracle of memory engineering, highly unlikely: this episode is packed to the gills with action.
( Remember? )
Whew. And that recap leaves a heck of a lot of stuff out, but a girl's gotta draw the line somewhere. (Where, exactly, said line gets drawn is a major question of Three Deep, just as it was in the Jossverse.)
Favorite scenes? Thinky thoughts? Predictions, things that jump out at you this time around? (It's all in the Details, of course.)
Come share.

Just a couple of days left in the week dedicated to Episode 1 of Three Deep. Are you rereading? Reminiscing? Reinterpreting?

» Let the countdown begin!
It's official: Episode 4 will air exactly three weeks from today. Huzzah! Mark your calendars.
Now, you might find that your memory of the first three episodes is growing a little dim. Who did what, exactly? And what was that other bit? This is not in any way to imply that Three Deep readers are suffering from any kind of senility or memory disorder, or that they are unusually quick to forget, but let's face it: it's been a while.
Some of you have already started rereading the old episodes in preparation for the upcoming. We think that's a smashing idea, and we'd like to take it a step further, if you're game.
We thus hereby declare each of the next three weeks to be dedicated to a previous episode of the series (doesn't that work out nicely?). Starting, of course, with Episode 1: Alley Oops.
Below is a quick recap to get us started.
Alley Oops, the Recap( Read more... )
So, are you rereading in preparation for episode 4? Any favorite bits you care to remember? Anything strike you differently now that you know a little of what comes after? Take a trip down memory lane with us, and talk about Alley Oops. (Feel free to speculate, too, if you dare!) Refresh your memory, and ours.
